A tailored, data-driven approach to ACT and SAT exam success.
We offer the widest variety of ACT and SAT prep options in Minnesota.
Be victorious!
Most students following a recommended Flying Colors prep program achieve an increase of 3 to 6+ points on the ACT or 100-200+ points on the SAT over their baseline score.
We build a customized plan for your student’s ACT and SAT prep using our proven five-step process
-
1.
Comprehensive Assessment: Your student completes one or two full-length practice tests. These diagnostic ACTs and SATs provide an assessment of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as scores which can be compared and used to measure progress in the program.
-
2.
Customized Plan: Our team puts together a personalized plan with tailored recommendations including which test – the ACT or SAT – would be best. Our recommendations include the expected timing for a first test, when to begin preparation, and how much your student can expect to improve.
-
3.
Expert Matching: We recommend a set of instructors for your student. Your student’s schedule, learning style, and outside interests will factor into the selections. Each student works with two instructors. One instructor will handle the verbal sections, while the other will focus on math (or math and science for the ACT).
-
4.
Personalized Support: After instructor selections are made, we work with you to arrange a series of weekly lessons. There is no minimum or maximum number of lessons. 12-14 lessons are typical in advance of a FIRST test. Two hours of homework per lesson and monthly practice tests are recommended.
-
5.
Test Day Guidance: After a series of lessons and practice tests, your student is ready to take their first real ACT or SAT. Instructors work to ensure students have a clear plan of execution and appropriate expectations for the test. Results are available ten days after the exam date, and your education director will be standing by ready to review results, address questions and discuss next steps.
Two great types of ACT and SAT prep: private or small group classes
Private, Individual Instruction
The combination of 1-on-1 attention and focus of individual instruction is the gold standard for mastering the ACT and SAT prep. Families pursuing a program of private instruction will typically work with one of our five education directors to:
- Evaluate baseline practice test results
- Consider important data such as college goals, learning style and schedules
- Make specific recommendations when we develop your student’s customized program of study
- Identify the ideal instructors to shepherd your student through the prep process
Small Group Classes
If your student prefers working with a small group of motivated students, then group instruction is a great choice.
- We offer an assortment of engaging, small group prep classes to help your student succeed
- These classes are offered throughout the year and in advance of every national ACT test date and several SAT test dates
- Our instructors bring a depth of expertise on all sections of the tests
- Working in a small group can be a fun and engaging way to prepare

From test prep to testing: timing considerations to help you plan.
For students getting ready for their first test, we typically suggest a program of 12-14 lessons. This provides plenty of opportunity to improve test-taking skills, increase familiarity with key concepts and develop a pacing and time management strategy appropriate for the student.
For students getting ready for a second or third test, we typically suggest a series of six to eight lessons.
Many students fit a test prep program into their school year, but summer is also an excellent time to undertake a test prep program. We have a variety of great summer program options.
How often should you test?
To maximize scores, we recommend students plan to test 2-3 times over the course of their junior and senior years.
